Decorating Fail

After waiting patiently all day, we finally got to decorating eggs late this afternoon, and it soon became obvious that we weren't thinking too clearly so late in the day. First, we got the girls all ready, only to realize that we hadn't mixed the dye, which, let me tell you, doesn't just happen instantaneously. Then, while about to mix the colors, we realized we only had enough vinegar for one color, and apparently vinegar is what makes the "neon" colors advertised on the package Mimi bought. We thought pink would make the best neon color, so we used our last bit of vinegar on that, only to re-check the package when it looked a little pale to see that pink is the only color that turns brightest with plain water. Oops. Still, the worst mistake was that none of our crayon designs showed up after getting dyed, which Mimi informed me was because I refrigerated the eggs after cooking and cooling them. What was I supposed to do, let them sit out for six hours? I don't think so. The good news is that while all this commotion was going on around them, the girls didn't even seem to notice and somehow still managed to have fun with their plain, pale eggs.

Will someone please remind me of this debacle when it's time to decorate eggs next year?
