A Day Without Pictures

We took the girls to the beach today, but you'll find no evidence of that here. There was a sandbar in the ocean which left a deep gully, too deep and with too strong a current for the girls to swim alone to the sandbar to jump waves, which meant they couldn't go in unsupervised. At least with Emmy and Kate, we managed man-on-man defense, but considering it's only Addie's second time at the beach, well, she needed help from both her parents. So alas, no pictures. 'Twas a sad, sad day...until Pop-Pop took us for a boat ride tonight and saved the day.

All was not for naught.

Racing in the Sand

It's another race day, this time back at the Avalon Tri. James and Seth raced, so Steph and Addie were there to cheer right along with us. It's just a bonus that the girls got a little time to play in the sand too.

Not too shabby, considering they rode 100 miles less than 24 hours ago! Way to go, Daddy-O!

Sprinkler Trio

This weekend we invited Seth, Stephanie, and Addison down the shore for the weekend. Seth and James rode their bikes down this afternoon while us girls drove down like sane people do, so Steph and Addie got there just in time for some sprinkler fun with Emmy and Kate.

Tomorrow we'll be off to the beach, just after an early triathlon pit stop.

Take Me out to the Ball Game

Tonight we took the girls to their second-ever Phillies game, again courtesy of PHLY. Unlike last year, there was no tent event this year, so to waste some time (and some of the girls' energy) before the game start, we took them to the Phun Zone play gym. Clearly they had so much fun that most of their time there was quite literally a blur.

I don't know how we did it, but we managed to get them out of there without any sign of a tantrum just in time for the first pitch. They had fun watching, oh, four innings, maybe? The ice cream break certainly helped.

(That last picture was courtesy of Kate. The girl already has talent, don't you think?)

Maybe someday we'll be able to stay for a whole game with them, but for now these girls have bedtimes, and even after just four innings, we were already out past theirs. In just a few short months the sun would have been long set by the time we left!

Racing Weekend

The kids' race aside, the real draws of the PHLY Tri weekend were the (adult) triathlons yesterday and this morning. We all know James is an animal, so of course he had to do both races. I stayed home yesterday morning to let the girls rest up before their racing debut, but Mom-Mom and Poppy were their to cheer on our favorite Ironman in the sprint.

Each year the PHLY team has a friendly competition with its parent company, and this year (as it happens every year, apparently), the PHLY team won, and you know James played a big part! He and Ryan both placed in their age group. Go Daddy Go!

If only we were there to cheer him on too! We did our part this morning, bright and early for the Olympic distance race. The girls were pretty chipper considering we were there before 6am!

The swim start is on the opposite side of the river from transition, and the girls anxiously awaited the chance to spot Daddy in his first transition and give him a big (dancing) cheer.

Once he left for his first loop on the bike, we found a nice spot where we could watch him on the bike and the run before heading over to the finish line.

Unfortunately, that was the only spot we didn't get to see him. Clearly, I was off my spectator game today. Not only did we miss seeing him finish despite standing right at the finish line, but apparently I couldn't even get a clear shot of him. Jeez. I better brush up before Leadville!

Awesome job this weekend, Daddy! We're all proud of you as always, even if the heat turned one of us into a grump-o-saurus. Now, on to the next race, only a week away!
