Best Christmas Ever!

If Emily said it, it must be true, right? For Kate, anything would have been an improvement over last Christmas when she spent the day sick, so thankfully everyone was happy and healthy this year. Not to mention incredibly excited.

Like the good girls they are, they went for the books first, but it was the biggest present -- their sled, wrapped in green -- that elicited cries of "BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!"

Aside from the plastic toboggan, Santa also gave each girl an inflatable sled. Emily was hesitant as she opened hers, first noticing the penguin and eventually proclaiming with disdain, "But this is a boy sled!" I think she liked Kate's better just because it's pink.

Both girls got excited again with their girlie presents: princess for Emily, baby doll for Kate.

I've always thought Christmas was fun, but these two just send it over the top. It's such a joy to watch their excitement and relive our own childhoods through them.

(Although admittedly our morning was not without meltdowns!)

After presents, the girls gobbled up the cookies left behind by Santa, although at first Kate bypassed the cookies for the reindeers' carrots before realizing that what Emily had was much better.

We got the girls dressed and headed over to Mimi and Pop-Pop's for some more presents, more leftover cookies, and best of all, more quality family time.

As usual, our last stop was Mom-Mom and Poppy's with even more presents and more family fun.

Mom-Mom and Poppy gave the girls Power Wheels -- princess, naturally -- which they cruised around the basement. Although the way Kate was driving could have been an advertisement against drinking and driving. "It's just milk, Officer, I promise!"

We moved back upstairs for an impromptu dance party to burn off whatever energy these two had left after such a long day. (I apologize in advance for my singing.)

By the end of the night, all the girls were exhausted, most of all Sophie.

Hope your day was as merry as ours. Happy Christmas, everyone!

Snug In Their Beds

At long last, Christmas is here, and after a quick check on Santa, Daddy and I will soon be joining our little snug bugs with visions of sugarplums dancing in our heads.

So long, Ernie the Elf. See you next year!

Another Year, Another Santa

It's Christmas Eve, and as the tradition has gone last year and the year before, Santa made a surprise visit before setting out on his sleigh.

You would think the girls might have gotten a sense of familiarity with this Santa (despite the Irish brogue), but Kate burst out into her usual tears, and Emmy wasn't really too keen on him either. Mimi seemed pretty cozy sitting on his lap, though!

We watched Santa dash away through the backyard -- losing his hat along the way -- and then it was time to open presents!

As often happens with our two crazy girls and even crazier family, the night ended with a dance party.

What can I say? We're a little excited about Christmas over here.
