A Long Hot Week

Go figure this week ended up being the hottest week of the summer, with today being the hottest day of all with temperatures above 100° combined with stifling humidity. Except for a rough day on Wednesday, in which she was overtired from waking up early and consequently spent most of the morning on the sidelines, Emily did really well considering. In fact, today was probably the best day she had all week! (Undoubtedly it helped that I had promised her she could finally get a treat from the ice cream truck that's been conveniently showing up at the end of camp each day.) So good was her day, in fact, that she actually won the swamp game today! In that game, the kids ran across the field while the coaches on the sidelines kicked soccer balls at them. If they got hit by a ball, they joined the coaches as kickers. It came down to Emmy and one other little girl, and in this case, her timidness was her strength!

After the swamp game, they played another game called robbers. With the kids divided into three teams and the balls piled in the center, they had to dribble a ball to their team's cone and then try to steal the other team's balls from their cones. To keep it safe, they weren't allowed to steal a ball that someone else was touching. The team with the most balls at the end won, and to help keep anyone from getting upset (and no one did), the coach also chose a random ball from the smallest pile as the "magic ball" which had all of the kids excited.

At snacktime, Emmy gleefully showed off her snacks to her new friends, and since Kate can never resist a snack, of course she joined in too. After they finished, Em found the princess pom-poms I had stashed in the stroller and decided to give her friends a cheer as a little pick-me-up for the last few minutes of camp.

Maybe next year we should reconsider and sign her up for cheerleading camp instead and just leave the soccer to Kate!
